The Peoples Republic of China’s Addictive Energy
My only regret was that I didn’t experience China much sooner. What’s more, I can’t wait to get back. The Chinese culture is alive with energy and a cooperative spirit that is absolutely addictive. I haven’t experienced this vibrancy in so long I had honestly forgotten it ever existed.
Remember when we were optimistic about everything we did? Everyone was excited about new ideas and innovation and we—as a culture—were positive we would succeed. Across the American business world people were anxious to meet with you to explore the endless possibilities for commerce. Where on earth did that spirit go? The New Center of the World
Over the past couple of years the government and business community of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has worked tirelessly to brand the country as the center of the world — the nexus between East and West. Like many businesspeople, I’ve wondered exactly what qualifies these little sheikhdoms on the Arabic Peninsula for this singular honor. During my recent trip to Dubai for the Arab Health Congress I gained some insight into why the UAE is both a bridge between worlds and a lightning rod for the innovative energy streaming through the medical industry in such seemingly unconnected locales as Shanghai (see article The Peoples Republic of China’s Addictive Energy) and Cleveland, USA (see article Breaking Ground and Breaking the Mold). Most Miserable City To Live In: It was a callous allegation (albeit an accurate one) made by Forbes in 2010 about the lakefront city of Cleveland, Ohio. As a former Clevelander myself, I can attest to having felt a bit gloomy when visiting Cleveland - and that’s not a result of the recent, highly publicized betrayal by LeBron James (in fact, let Miami have him, and his mother). The city’s bitter climate, poorly utilized lakefront and perpetually gray skies collectively lead to a rather sedentary life. And a lack of options for active living contributes to a population that’s not going to make any “Healthiest Cities to Live In” lists, at least not this year. ...{more}
