Joe hired me to cover a territory that he had started from scratch in 1980. I believe this points out Joe’s ability to see upcoming trends in the market. Smaller dealers were being acquired by bigger players and the needs were changing from working with dealer management to adding close working with the reps. His territory was quite large and this would have been impossible. Realizing this need ahead of time, he hired two other representatives and me to give each territory the kind of coverage it was going to need. With Joe’s reputation we were able to attract top vendors that were major players or great smaller companies that became market forces in their fields. He built a state of the art show room and training center for customers and rep training. Were each could, hands on learn about the products, including a conference area and audio/video aids. After 17 years Joe was ready for new challenges, selling the business to his reps in the field. In negotiating that purchase I found Joe tough, but fair. So in 2000 he started his consulting and management business.
My relationship has continued to this day. Joe has found companies that are solid with great competitive advantages. He has helped them in the marketing and sometimes sales management side. If a line is going to be successful I must have the major dealers handling the line. With his connections I find that this has already been accomplished in part or in full. I am approached by various companies but if Joe is involved my experience tells me that it is going to be solid business opportunity for me.
